Press release – FGMAT 2025 – Review
A breath of fresh air and a positive outcome for the 21st Edition of the Festival des Guitares du Monde in Abitibi-Témiscamingue
Rouyn-Noranda, June 2, 2025 — The Festival des Guitares du Monde in Abitibi-Témiscamingue closed the book on its vibrant, festive, and profoundly human 21st edition last night. For eight days, the stages of Rouyn-Noranda resonated with the sounds of guitars from around the world, offering audiences a rich tapestry of emotions, discoveries, and unforgettable moments.
A Major, unifying musical celebration
Once again, FGMAT 2025 established itself as an essential celebration of music in all its diversity. From the Agora des Arts to the outdoor stage in the Agnico Eagle zone, including the Petit Théâtre, the Centre de Congrès, and several seniors’ residences, the atmosphere was festive, warm, and intimate. An enhanced lineup of free programming fostered a real sense of community, where smiles and clapping hands blended seamlessly with the artists’ melodies.

A Festival for all ages
What makes FGMAT truly special is its ability to bring generations together. Long-time fans who’ve been there since the early years mingled with wide-eyed children, entire families, and many young adults experiencing their very first FGMAT. The very first Family Day was met with great enthusiasm, once again proving that music is a universal language that builds bridges across ages and backgrounds. Several festive performances drew in new audiences, including the closing show by Owen Riegling.

Unforgettable Performances That Left a Mark
No review of this edition would be complete without highlighting the power of the
performances. Electrifying moments lit up the venues, including sold-out concerts
by Jesse Cook and the duo of Patrice Michaud and Vincent Vallières, whose tickets
sold out less than 24 hours after going on sale. Audiences were transported by the
warm voice of Mônica Freire, who took us on a journey through Brazil, Syria, and
Lebanon; the virtuosity of Duo Thémis; the simple and heartfelt charm of Yasmin
Williams; the breathtaking playing of Julian Lage; and the powerful sense of unity
brought by the collective Nikamu Mamuitun. These were magical, timeless moments
that will remain etched in our collective memory.

A Community United Around the Festival
FGMAT is also a collective adventure. The Luthiers’ Salon showcased the talent of
artisans from near and far, while the Grand Regroupement Acoustique en Abitibi-
Témiscamingue (GRAAT) jam session gathered music lovers in a warm,
spontaneous setting. Initiatives like the waste collection in partnership with Collectif
Territoire reflect a festival rooted in its community and mindful of its impact and
environment.
Thank You to Those Who Made It All Possible

exceptional dedication of more than 120 volunteers —
the true pillars of the event — and the continued trust of
our public and private partners. Their support plays a
vital role in the quality, reach, and sustainability of
FGMAT.
