The GUITARES will vibrate again in October
Rouyn-Noranda, May 5, 2021 — Spring is settling in, birds are singing, trees are starting to blossom reminding us of the return of a beautiful season and to our many musical events… And the very first event scheduled to take place in the Vieux Noranda district was the Festival des Guitares du Monde en Abitibi-Témiscamingue ! Unfortunately, due to the current situation, this event had to be postponed. But the Team would still like to share the following greats news.
FGMAT 2021 DATES
The Festival’s 17th edition dates have finally been set. Uniquely this year, from October 1 to 9, 2021 the guitar strings will be vibrating for 9 days thanks to DESJARDINS, an faithful original partner, joins us in inviting you to this great event! Please note that this change of dates is temporary and that the Festival will return to its usual schedule in May 2022.
In addition to our usual presence at the Petit Théâtre, the Festival will be expanding outside of Le Vieux Noranda to Le Théâtre du Cuivre for additional performances -another first for this very special year.
We are very happy to be able to continue to work on an indoor program (albeit with a reduced capacity) thus offering working opportunities to artists and technicians alike. The organizing committee is preparing a formula that will differ slightly this year allowing the event to take place and assuring that nothing will be left to chance to preserve the Festival’s unique character and the quality of shows.
We are also most proud to inform you that we have strengthened and consolidated our on-going partnership with DESJARDINS. Always present and ready to support us in our sometimes off-the-wall plans, this acolyte of-the-first order agreed to commit nother 3 years and thus becoming the new official presenter for the 2021 Festival des Guitares du Monde, a title given to our most committed partner and also a sign of confidence and support for our team allowing them to spread their wings!
As the return of the Festival des Guitares is confirmed for this fall, the organizing committee is pleased to announce the first artist in its 2021 program. To highlight the multitude of styles that characterize the Festival’s regular programming, the Team has decided to offer a concert that will stand out for its variety in music. On Saturday, October 9, we will have the immense joy of welcoming ace Montreal guitarist JORDAN OFFICER to the GLENCORE stage at the Petit Théâtre du Vieux Noranda.
Whether in the company of Susie Arioli or solo, this alchemist of sound has asserted himself over the last two decades in a certain virtuosity with a sensitive and a sober elegance, equal to none. As a composer, author and singer, blues, jazz, country and rock’n’roll merge into an eminently singular and personal language. An extraordinary musician, JORDAN OFFICER leaves an indelible mark on all those who have the opportunity to hear him.
The spring of 2020 marks the realization of a project that Jordan has been dreaming of for a long time: a trilogy in which each volume is dedicated to one of the three pillars of his musical expression. Recording each of these three albums with a “live” approach, the unclassifiable musician, who has always favored a fundamentally personal language and style released, Country vol.1, Jazz vol.1 and Blues vol. 1, on the Spectra Musique label in July 2020.
“We were really looking forward to announcing the arrival of JORDAN OFFICER. His visit was scheduled last year, but we were unable to announce it due to the cancellation of the event Festival. His last visit to the Festival was in 2011… that’s 10 years ago! Our team is excited to see our dedicated festival-goers again and also very happy to be able to announce a first show“, says Jean Royal, Festival president.
All this good news confirms that the Festival des Guitares du Monde is committed to being part of the revival of festivals and events, and also reaffirming its support for artists and cultural workers.
