A Special Invited Guest for the FGMAT - 13th edition
Rouyn-Noranda, April 18th, 2017 — A few months ago, the Festival des Guitares du Monde en Abitibi-Témiscamingue connected with a very special artist. Eventhough her musical field is not that of the guitar, this artist carries bagage which includes a personal story that will leave no one in Rouyn-Noranda indifferent to her story.
While on a trip to California this past September, Mr. Alain Vézina, a passionate melomane and cofounder of the Festival, became interested in a female singer who was performing on a pier in Santa Monica. And what to his surprise did he realise that this lady was named Rouyn Noranda! Upon his return, Alain shared this amazing encounter with the organizers of FGMAT which ignited the Festival team to communicate with this lady.
It is with great pride that the Festival des Guitares du Monde in its 13th edition announces Ms. Rouyn Noranda as their special invited guest this May 2017. Ms. Rouyn Noranda Idley, née Carter, is the daughter of Pee-Wee Carter, a jazz musician who performed in Rouyn-Noranda during the 1950s.
The Festival des Guitares du Monde shared this story with Mr. Félix B. Desfossés, a journalist at ICI Radio-Canada Première who is always interested in hearing of unusual stories from our region. Keep an ear open to the following radio broadcasts, Des Matins en Or at 7:25 am and Région zéro 8 between 3:30 and 18:00, to get more details during the exclusive interviews with Ms. Rouyn Noranda and Mr. Alain Vézina. The complete interviews can also be heard at http://ici.radio-canada.ca/abitibi-temiscaminque/
