Cancellation of the Festival's 16th edition

Press release for immediate release - March 26th, 2020 - Cancellation of the Festival’s 16th edition

Rouyn-Noranda, March 26th, 2020 — It is with deep regret that the Festival des Guitares du Monde en Abitibi-Témiscamingue board of directors announces the cancellation of the Festival's 16th edition that was set for this coming May (May 23 to 30, 2020).

We were a few days away from announcing a well-developed, high quality, diversified program on the 17th of March but the present-day situation (a force majeure event), obliged the team to reevaluate, as was being done by many other events.

Different scenarios were examined, one of which was to postpone our program revealing to a later date rather than cancelling our event. However, the unstable present-day situation was making it difficult to put our plan into place.

Our office is presently closed until april 14th. Over the next following weeks, we will be preparing the proper steps to either carryover or reimburse the tickets and passports already sold. On the other hand, we are asking for your solidarity, if that is a possibility for you, to carryover the tickets or passports to the next edition in 2021. If the show that you have chosen cannot be presented, you could be reimbursed.

We are inviting you to consult our social network or visit our website at FGMAT.COM, where all information will be kept  updated. You can also communicate with us by phone.

This situation is particularly difficult for our cultural milieu. Music and Arts do more than entertain they go deep into our souls. We are encouraging our partners along with the population to support and to attend future cultural events once life returns to normal.

Until then, we assure you that we will stay on course and will pursue all efforts that this "missed rendez-vous" is seen only as just a brief pause.

We look forward to seeing you in the near future. Let's all look out for each other.
