Mia Dyson is an award-winning guitarist and singer/songwriter based in Los Angeles, CA, originally from Melbourne. A multiple ARIA (Grammy equivalent) & APRA award-winner, Dyson was recently named one of Australia’s top 25 guitarists of all time and has toured with Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, Chris Issak, Stevie Nicks, The Waifs and many more.
Since self-releasing her debut album, Cold Water (2003) at age 22, Mia Dyson has instilled her music with raw passion and timeless vitality. Parking Lots (2005) is “a gorgeous slice of Dyson’s soulful magic” (Inpress Magazine) while Struck Down (2007) demonstrates “sensitivity and passion in Mia’s stellar vocal and guitar performances” (JMag – Guest review by Josh Cunningham/The Waifs).
Her 2012 album The Moment received ★★★★ (4 stars) in Rolling Stone and was followed up by Idyllwild (2014), an album that Daytrotter hailed as “Brilliant” and scored her a win as Double J Radio’s “Artist of the Year”.
His most recent album, If I Said Only So Far I Take It Back (March 2018), was recorded in the city of Muscle Shoals, AL, with producer Ben Tanner (Alabama Shakes, St. Paul & the Broken Bones), famed original “Swamper” David Hood on bass, John Paul White (The Civil Wars) on backing vocals and Dyson’s longtime drummer Erin “Syd”Sidney. With this sixth album, the artist deepened the connection to her musical roots by recording at Portside Sound: a studio in the same Muscle Shoals Sound Studios building where legendary records by the Bob Dylan and Joe Cocker came to life.
If I Said Only So Far I Take It Back adds a stylistic unpredictability to her soulful, introspective strain of rock music. Along with proving her extraordinary magnetism as a guitarist, the album finds Dyson shaping each emotionally intricate track with a more intense vulnerability than she’s ever revealed before. This new album arrives as the latest addition to an acclaimed catalog.
